4 tablespoonsbutterunsalted, melted
Makes: 9inch0 x 0inch round, 1.5inch height
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350.
Crush cookies, graham crackers or pretzels then measure. Add to a medium bowl.
Add sugar and salt and stir to combine.
Add melted butter and mix until texture of wet sand is achieved.
Add the mixture to a pie plate then use the bottom of a flat glass or measuring cup to press the crumbs evenly along the bottom and sides of the pie plate. They should be about 1/4" thick, but it's fine if they are a bit thicker.
Bake 8-10 minutes then cool before filling.
Notes
Note 1: 1 3/4 cups of crushed cookies, graham crackers or pretzels will fill a standard aluminum disposable pie plate.Because most glass or metal pie plates are larger, double the recipe for a deep dish 9-inch pie plate. For glass or metal pie plates that are not deep dish (about 1" tall) use 2 cups of crushed cookies or crackers, 2 tablespoons sugar and 4 tablespoons melted butter. Note 2: Organic cane sugar, coconut sugar, maple sugar may be substituted. Honey or maple syrup may be used but will make the crust more wet.
